🌻 “Ballad of the Sunflower” — a collection of embroidered patches created for Ukraine’s Independence Day.
The sunflower is a symbol deeply dear to us, though we don’t always grasp its full meaning.
At the beginning of the 20th century, artists like Narbut, Zhuk, and Krychevsky actively introduced the image of the sunflower into Ukrainian art. Back then, it was a kind of bohemian flower used in photoshoots and portraits of noble ladies. Later, the sunflower became a symbol of Ukrainian fields, a witness to many events — from joyful to tragic chapters of our existence.
“Ballad of the Sunflower” tells that the sunflower is a witness to our history. The Ilovaisk tragedy of 2014, the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in 2014 — these flowers have seen it all.
As Ivan Drach wrote: “To become a sunflower forever.” May this symbol remain forever in our hearts.
